Rajasthan Royals batter Shimron Hetmyer was been fined for hitting the stump with his bat as he made his off the field after being bowled during the second qualifier of IPL 2024 played between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals in Chennai on Friday.
Hetmyer, batting on four off 9, went on the backfoot to a delivery from Abhishek Sharma in the 14th over but he missed the shot to see his off-stump being pinged.
Hetmyer than knocked over the off-stump with his bat in frustration even as SRH players gathered to celebrate the key dismissal that left RR in deep trouble at 92/6 in an ultimately unsuccessful chase of 176 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
“Shimron Hetmyer of the Rajasthan Royals has been fined 10 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the Qualifier 2 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on May 24,” read a statement from IPL.

The statement doesn’t specify the reason behind the punishment but does mention that Hetmyer has been fined for Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of IPL code of conduct which deals with “Abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a match.”
“Hetmyer committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” read the statement.
The defeat ended RR’s hopes of making it to the IPL 2024 final after an impressive season. They did suffer a late slump which pushed them down to the third spot in the table but they recovered to win the Eliminator and advanced to the second qualifier.
SRH, after their 36-run win, will have just a day’s time to rest and recover before taking on the mighty Kolkata Knight Riders in the title clash on Sunday night.
