"They Will be Awarded a Contract If...": Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan's Way Back to Securing BCCI Contract
Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan's could make a quick turnaround to securing the BCCI contract if they perform well in the IPL to make it to India's T20 World Cup squad.

Ishan Kishan and Shreyas have been the talk of the town after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the annual retainers for the men’s team for 2023-24. The list of names did not include the two as they were not considered for the contracts as per the release. But all hope is not lost for the Indian pair.

In a report by ESPNCricinfo, a BCCI official revealed that the two players can get their contracts again provided they play for the Indian side. BCCI’s release mentioned,” Athletes who meet the criteria of playing a minimum of 3 Tests or 8 ODIs or 10 T20Is within the specified period will automatically be included in Grade C on a pro-rata basis.”

The BCCI official was quoted saying, “After the IPL, if they happen to get selected and fulfil the criteria of the number of matches required for a pro-rata contract, they will be awarded a contract.”

Despite being snubbed for the central contracts, there is enough time for a quick recovery as both men will look to take part in the upcoming IPL where they will look to make a strong case for selection for the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup coming up later.

It has been a dramatic series of events for the pair. Ishan Kishan has not played any cricket for the domestic side since he left the Indian squad during their tour of South Africa earlier. The report claims that the Board were not happy seeing the wicket-keeper batter train with Hardik Pandya in Baroda.

Shreyas Iyer on the other hand has also not been part of Mumbai’s games after being dropped for the last three Tests against England at home. The report also mentions what irked the selectors.  The report also mentioned that Iyer was taking part in Kolkata Knight Rider’s camp as well. Following the announcement Iyer has been named in the Mumbai squad for their upcoming semi-final bout against Tami Nadu.

The Indian side on the other hand will look to wrap up their final match against England which is an inconsequential fixture due to the series already being won by the hosts. This will be followed by the Indian Premier League and then the marquee event, the T20 World Cup taking place in the West Indies and the United States of America.
