Kohli picked up the catch to get rid of Elgar on his final innings before retirement and called for the team and the crowd to show the South African batter respect for his contributions to the sport.

South African skipper Dean Elgar received a massive ovation from Proteas and Indians alike as he walked back to the hur following his dismissal in the second innings on Wednesday at the Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town on Day 1 of the second Test.

Elgar had announced that this would be his last series before retirement and the Indian team ensured that the left-handed batsmen would receive the respect he deserves on his final bow.

Team Indian stars Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jaspirt Bumrah and others congratulated the 36-year-old on his career after he was dismissed by Mukesh Kumar for 12 runs on his final appearance for the Proteas.

Kohli picked up the catch to get rid of the player and called for the team and the crowd to show the South African batter respect for his contributions to the sport.

A moved Elgar waved his bat in gratitude as he walked back to the dugout with the Indian and South African pavilion on their feet alongside a raucous crowd that acknowledged the southpaw’s services to the country’s cricket team.

South Africa won the toss and opted to bat first in the second Test of the series and were bundled out for just 55 runs by the Indian bowling attack in the first innings as Mohammed Siraj starred with a six-wicket haul.

India managed to score 153 runs in reply as they took a 98-run lead before being wrapped up by the home team. Kohli top scored for the visitors with his 46 runs knock, while Rohit added 39 runs and Shubman Gill chipped in with 36 runs.

The second innings was off to a good start for India as they managed to scalp Elgar early in the innings before pacer Mukesh struck again to send Tony de Zorzi back to the hut for just a single run.

Bumrah jumped in on the action as he dismissed Tristan Stubbs yet again, after he also got rid of the batsman in the first innings, as South Africa were reeling at 50 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in the second innings.
