Royal Challengers Bengaluru are a couple of wins away from entering the IPL 2024 final. A month back, they were on the brink of an early end to their season having suffered six defeats in a row, a horrible run that pushed them to the bottom of the standings with a miniscule chance of a top-four finish.
However, RCB put their house in order which turned their season around and propelled them to the fourth spot by the time their league stage campaign came to an end. On Wednesday, the Faf du Plessis-led franchise will be playing in the Eliminator against Rajasthan Royals and a victory here will take then a step closer to realising their IPL dream.

Former RCB owner Vijay Mallya has sent his wishes to the team, recalling how he instinctively bid for the Bengaluru-based franchise and a certain 19-year-old Virat Kohli.
“When I bid for the RCB franchise and I bid for Virat, my inner instinct told me that I could not have made better choices,” Mallaya posted on X (formerly Twitter).
When I bid for the RCB franchise and I bid for Virat, my inner instinct told me that I could not have made better choices. My inner instinct tells me that RCB have the best chance to go for the IPL Trophy. Onward and Upward. Best of luck.— Vijay Mallya (@TheVijayMallya) May 21, 2024
Mallaya reckons this is the best time for RCB to clinch that elusive IPL trophy with the momentum on their side now.
“My inner instinct tells me that RCB have the best chance to go for the IPL Trophy. Onward and Upward. Best of luck,” he added.
Kohli has represented RCB since the inaugural season of IPL in 2008, becoming their most prized possession. The batting superstar has since become the most prolific run-getter in the competition’s history.
He also went on to captain RCB and in 2016, scored 973 runs during the season – the most by any batter in a single edition – to lead their charge into the final.
While individually Kohli has been setting new standards, as a team RCB are yet to win an IPL season. They have made the finals thrice so far, finishing as runners-up on all three ocassions.
