The Centre for Biomedical Engineering (CBME) at IIT Delhi has launched an exclusive Master of Science (Research) programme in ‘Healthcare Technology’ aimed at bridging the gap between medicine and engineering. The programme will commence in January 2025 and has specifically been designed for medical and allied clinical professionals. Those interested and eligible may apply on the official website at ecampus.iitd.ac.in/PGADM/login by October 25.

The programme will engage students in cutting-edge research projects encompassing areas such as precision medicine, biomaterials, medical implants, medical imaging, rehabilitation, biomimetics models, and translational medicine, the IIT said in an official press release.

The curriculum has been designed to encourage critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a deep understanding of research methodologies, ensuring that graduates are equipped to tackle complex challenges in the field along with entrepreneurship skills. The programme will also offer a seamless transition to pursue a Ph.D. at IIT Delhi.

The course will allow medical professionals to continue their clinical practice while pursuing their studies. The programme aims to impart skills required by the healthcare industry along with training to take up scientific research either for higher studies or in Industry and clinical laboratories. Students enrolled in this programme will be supported by fellowships and remunerations comparable to salaries and stipends available for medical and allied discipline graduates at entry-level positions, the IIT said.

Highlighting the importance of such a programme, Prof Neetu Singh, Head, CBME, IIT Delhi, explained, “The program will provide the much-needed intermediate degree and training for filling the gap between traditional bachelor’s and longer duration Master’s and doctoral degrees needed to become an independent researcher for the medical and allied professionals. It will bring the medical and allied graduates to scientific research in leading academic institutions. Through this programme, IIT Delhi envisions producing globally competitive human resources that can not only uplift the start-up culture and industrial output but will also fuel high-quality scientific research related to biomedical science and engineering.”
