Last month, Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani attended the Wimbledon quarter-final in London, witnessing high-profile matches between Carlos Alcaraz and Tommy Paul, as well as Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev. Pictures of the couple, elegantly dressed in regal shades of blue, went viral. A clip featuring Sidharth holding an umbrella for Kiara as they walked through the AELTC’s Parkside Suite in No 1 Court also gained significant attention. Kiara revealed that it was her husband who had sparked her interest in tennis.
In an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, Sidharth responded to his Shershaah co-star, saying, “I’ve been following Wimbledon for a while. Tennis is one of the classiest sports. It was great to be at the venue and see some of the top athletes. It was also lovely to see the grass live. I was trying to lure her in to go see it live, and she was a big sport. By seeing the energy live, she understood what I was talking about. Hopefully, we’ll get to see many more matches there and experience the grass court."
The couple also enjoys watching cricket together and had a great time following India’s performance in this season’s T20 World Cup. “We watch matches at home together. We were following the World Cup. India winning was a great moment for all of us. I was in Delhi with my family at that time. It’s great watching sports with friends and family. If I go to an outdoor bar and they put on a match, I’ll be rooting for my favorite team like most people do. I think sports unites people, and that’s one of the best things about the World Cup," shared Sidharth.
Known for his love of sports, the Indian Police Force and Yodha actor mentioned that there’s one sport he hasn’t tried yet but intends to explore soon. “What I haven’t tried yet is pickleball. There’s a friend of mine, Shashank Khaitan (filmmaker), who has been encouraging me to try it. So, let’s see. Shashank has been calling me for a bit, and I hope we get to play soon," he said.
On Wednesday, August 7, Sidharth, as the face of TVS Apache Spartan, introduced Spartan racing (obstacle course racing) in India. This event aligns with its inclusion in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Talking about it, he remarked, “Spartan race is the perfect precursor to train our athletes for a competition like the Olympics. They can use the next four years to train themselves. I’m very stoked about Spartan race coming to our country."
When asked if he has been following this year’s Olympics, where Manu Bhaker and Vinesh Phogat have made India proud, Sidharth replied, “Whenever I get the time, I keep looking at the highlights. I’m rooting for all the Indian athletes. They’re doing really well. I’m happy for them and all the medals they’ve won. I hope more and more Indian athletes keep winning in the coming days and weeks."
