Vikram Bhatt’s association with Mahesh Bhatt spans several decades. After assisting Mahesh on films like Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke and Junoon, Vikram made his directorial debut with Jaanam, produced by Vishesh Films. Over the years, the duo has delivered hit films like Ghulam, Raaz, 1920, and Haunted – 3D. While Vikram has worked with Mahesh’s elder daughter Pooja Bhatt in Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin and nephew Emraan Hashmi in Kasoor and Footpath, he has never directed his youngest daughter, Alia Bhatt.
In an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, Vikram revealed that he has neither expected Alia to work with him nor requested Mahesh to cast her in his films. “Her father and I share a relationship that is exclusive and doesn’t involve our families. I don’t think I make the kind of films that Alia Bhatt would be interested in. She has her own universe and choices, and I’ve never gone to Bhatt saab and asked him to get Alia for a particular role. Our relationship isn’t like that.”
Speaking about the new generation of actors, Vikram praised Janhvi Kapoor for carving a niche for herself in a male-dominated industry. “There are girls I really admire for their grit and choice of roles, like Janhvi. I don’t care what people say about her films’ success or failure. She has chosen not to latch onto some star or become the second heroine to a third hero. She has refused to do that,” he stated.
Addressing those who criticise her as a product of nepotism, Vikram emphasised that Janhvi has stood out by choosing projects that could be considered risky. “Her films center on her. She has had opportunities to prove her skills, and I admire that about her. Nepo kid or not, that doesn’t matter,” he remarked.
Talking about how Janhvi has been redefining success in her own way, the Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage and Awara Paagal Deewana director added, “Here’s someone who’s trying to do something different. I think that’s more sensible than just chasing success at the cost of being a nobody in a film, which only gives you the illusion of success when, in fact, you had nothing to do with it.”
On a related note, Vikram and Mahesh recently collaborated on a horror film titled Bloody Ishq, which is currently streaming on Disney+ Hotstar. As for Alia, she will next be seen in Jigra and has big-ticket films like Alpha and Love And War in the pipeline. Janhvi, on the other hand, was recently seen in Ulajh and has Devara: Part 1 and Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari in her kitty.
