New Delhi: As Dempo SC prepare to face Syria’s Al Maged in the AFC Cup on Tuesday evening, coach Armando Colaco has asked for a fresh start from his boys.
The I-League champions are placed sixth on the league table and Colaco even mentions about his team having to fight the relegation.
“We are sixth and anything can happen. Barring Vasco, we do have some danger. The boys know that they don’t stand a chance in the I-League.
“Hence, I have told them to start afresh in the AFC Cup. Last year, we reached the semi-finals and we can take inspiration from it,” said Colaco.
Dempo would have been plying their trade in the prestigious AFC Champions League had they won the play-off against Al Sharjah. Armando Colaco was praised by the Sharjah coach Tony Pullis and the same was done by Tahseen Jabbary of Al Maged.
“He (Jabbary) has expressed his surprise as to how we played at Sharjah,” said Colaco. Dempo are still without Joaquim Abranches and Dominic Noronha while Beto’s younger brother Rodrigo was to play but due to a delay in registration, his participation is in the air.
Meanwhile, Al Maged are making their debut in the AFC Cup this year.
