Facebook Screenshot Notifications Explained: Posts, Messages, + More
What screenshots does Facebook send notifications for? The answer isn't simple, so this wikiHow article teaches you about the different screenshot notifications on Facebook.
Things You Should Know
  • Facebook does not send notifications if you or someone else screenshots a story, post, video, or anything like that.
  • You will get notified if someone screenshots an encrypted message in Messenger.
  • If someone screenshots an encrypted message on Messenger, you'll see it in the chat.

Does Facebook send notifications for screenshots?

Taking a screenshot of stories, posts, or pictures does not send a notification. You or someone else can take screenshots of almost anything without triggering a notification.

A screenshot of an encrypted chat will send a notification. Encrypted chats will disappear after a designated time, and if someone turns that feature on, then Facebook will send a notification when someone screenshots a message.

How will I know if someone screenshotted my encrypted chat?

You'll see a line in the chat that someone took a screenshot. The profile that took the screenshot will be mentioned in the chat, so there's no hiding who took the picture. You can forward the encrypted message too, by tapping and holding the message until a menu pops up. If you do this, though, you'll see a "[Your Name] forwarded a message" notification in the chat.

What's your reaction?
