Telugu Film Balagam Sent To Oscar Selection Committee For Consideration As India's Official Entry
Numerous international juries have already dubbed Balagam as one of the best slice-of-life films of the year.

Music composer MM Keeravani created history when his composition Naatu Naatu from SS Rajamouli’s RRR earned him an Academy Award For Best Original Song. It became the first song from an Indian film to win in this category. It also won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song. These international recognitions have catapulted Telugu cinema to new heights and the West has finally learnt to look beyond Bollywood when it comes to Indian cinema. Since Telugu cinema has now set the bar quite high, more hopes are pinned on the industry from the 2024 Oscars.

If the latest reports are to be believed, a popular movie has already been sent to the committee for review. The movie Balagam, which was directed by Venu Yeldandi, is currently dominating both traditional cinema attendance and online viewership. The film won plaudits for its realistic portrayal of rural Telangana and its gripping depiction of a dying predicament Owing to the film’s success, producer Dil Raju has decided to submit it for foreign honours, including the Academy Awards. He said that Balagam has all the requirements for success on the biggest cinema platform in the world and that he will work to get it nominated for an Oscar.

Priyadarshi, Kavya Kalyanram, Sudhakar Reddy, Kota Jayaram, Mime Madhu and Muralidhar Goud play the main characters in the movie. Numerous international juries have already dubbed it as one of the best slice-of-life films of the year. Another Telugu film that has been sent to the committee for entry to the Oscars is Dasara starring Nani.

The other films sent to the selection committee headed by Girish Kasaravalli include Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani (in Hindi), The Story Teller (in Hindi), Music School (in Hindi), Mrs Chatterjee Vs. Norway (in Hindi), 12th Fail (in Hindi), Ghoomer (in Hindi), Gadar 2 (in Hindi), Viduthalai Part 1 (in Tamil), Vaalvi (in Marathi), Baap Lyok (in Marathi), The Kerala Story (in Hindi) and Zwigato (Hindi).
