Two students of the Presidency College were injured after being beaten up by a group from Pachaiyappa’s College here on Tuesday.
Police said Presidency College students Deepak and Yuvaraja were travelling by an MTC bus on route no 27H plying between Avadi and Anna Square. At 9.20 am, the bus reached the Anna Arch bus stop where many Pachaiyappa’s students were waiting to board their respective buses. Suddenly, five students, from among those on the sidewalk, started throwing stones at Deepak and Yuvaraja who had alighted from the bus. One of the stones hit Deepak on the head while Yuvaraja escaped without any major injury. The windshield of the bus was also damaged.
Meanwhile, fearing assault, another Presidency College student, Ganesh, who was travelling on the bus that came after 27H, tried to get down before it came to a halt. He skidded and sustained head injuries. Deepak and Ganesh were rushed to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. Deepak later sought to be shifted to a leading private hospital. Aminjikarai Inspector K Chandrasekar said the assailants have been identified. They will be arrested soon. This is the fourth incident of clashes due to inter-college rivalry in which six have been injured so far.
