Five suspected Maoists, including two minors, were arrested during a search operation in Maoist-hit Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, the police said on Friday.

"Those arrested are organisations of supporters of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist)," a senior police official said.

On reaching the Gorna village, a joint group of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and local police on an "area domination operation" in the forests under the Bijapur police station, located over 400 kms away from the state capital Raipur, spotted some people running away into the forests on Thursday evening, after which the team chased and nabbed them, he said.

"During interrogation they admitted providing assistance to Maoists," he said.

Those arrested were identified as Kunjam Sainu (23) Kunjam Aaytu (25) and Modiyam Laxman (20), members of Maoist cultural wing Chetna Natya Manch and two other minors said to be members of the Maoist children's group, Bal Sangham.

"Maoist banners, posters, pamphlets and anklets were recovered from their possession," he said.

A case under the Chhattisgarh Special Public Security Act has been registered against them, he said.
