THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Raju Narayana Swamy, the Kerala cadre IAS officer with a brilliant academic record, has notched up another outstanding feat by becoming the first all-India service officer in the country to complete all the 10 courses conducted by the National Institute of Disaster Management, New Delhi. The online courses comprising one basic and nine specialised courses were conducted by the Institute, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, in collaboration with the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR), managed by the World Bank. As one who had stood first in the state SSLC (1983), pre-degree (MGU-1985), IIT (Chennai) and GATE, and topping it with an all-India first rank in the Civil Services examinations (1990), the student in Raju Narayana Swamy rose to the occasion when he turned his attention to the scope of mitigating the impact of disasters and risk management. He also authored a slew of books on various topics while on varied assignments in and out of the state, including of Observer of the Election Commission of India in 17 elections in other states.It is during these jaunts outside the state that he took to the green field area of disaster management which provides immense scope for active involvement and brings out the best of a committed professional.He began to make the best use of the courses provided by NIDM and came out in flying colours.Currently, Raju Narayana Swamy is holding the post of State Civil Supplies Commissioner.
