CHENNAI/NEW DELHI : Police security had been increased and tightened for Governor K Rosaiah allegedly following an alert from the Intelligence Bureau. Police sources claimed that the IB had sent an alert to the Chennai city police that Naxals could target the Governor. Hence it had suggested strengthening the already ‘Z’ plus security given to him. Police also said that the city police have decided to conduct a security walk-through in the venues the Governor was to attend functions apart from strengthening security at Raj Bhavan. More security personnel have been posted at Raj Bhavan and police maintain strict vigil and patrolling, police said and added that efforts were on to post commando personnel in the governor’s residence.Rosaiah, during his tenure as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, had reportedly ignored open threats from Left-extremists, who were active in his state, and had even broken security cordons around him once or twice. But as Governor of Tamil Nadu, he seems to be have developed cold feet, all because of a ‘perceived threat’ from the same source. Yet another interesting reason for why he allegedly may be feeling vulnerable is the current political situation in AP. With the Andhra state police and the allied security infrastructure is rather busy tackling Jagan Mohan Reddy’s arrest on corruption charges and its fallout amidst crucial by-elections to one Lok Sabha and 18 assembly seats, there’s a fear that the Naxals in the state are having a free run. At the moment, they are certainly not the focal point of the Andhra’s security apparatus. Going by the recent abductions and heightened Maoist activities Odisha to the Andhra turmoil and one would know why the TN Governor’s or his security team are in a tizzy. To make matter worse, the MoS Home is on record saying that intelligence reports suggest the Maoists are currently engaged in increasing their foot-prints in the forests of deep south, where they plan to set up new bases. In the forested border zones of Karnataka, Kerala and TN, some suspicious activities have been noticed.
