Asaram case: Key witness Kripal Singh shot to death
He was shot at by two unidentified motorcycle-borne persons in Puwayan area while he was on his way home on Friday night, police had said.

Shahjahanpur: The key witness in the alleged sexual assault case against self-styled godman Asaram died on Saturday night. 35-year-old Kripal Singh was shot at in Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh on Friday.

He was shot at by two unidentified motorcycle-borne persons in Puwayan area while he was on his way home on Friday night, police had said.

In a statement given to Additional City Magistrate, Singh had alleged that people connected to Asaram were threatening him from the last few days.

"Kripal Singh was shot at and he was brought to the local hospital and then he was shifted to hospital in Bareilly. We have learned that he was associated in Asaram's case. We will look into all possible angles for the investigation," Babloo Kumar, Superintendent of Police at Shahjahanpur had said.

Around seven witnesses in the case have been attacked out of which three have died.

Asaram is in jail since August 2013, for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl. He was arrested after the 16-year-old girl lodged a police complaint in August 20,2014 alleging that the self-styled godman sexually assaulted her at his ashram in Jodhpur.
