THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The BJP is adding some e-spice to Neyyatinkara’s by-poll menu. Beginning this week, the saffron party will start live webcasts of party veteran O Rajagopal’s campaign in the southern constituency. BJP’s IT cell said the initiative will be launched on Wednesday or Thursday on www.orajagopal.in. “It’s definitely a first for an election campaign,’’ said Giri K R of the IT cell. The day’s tour of the candidate, conventions, can be watched live, and both video and audio will be available, he said. “In Neyyatinkara, the municipality area is ideal for the project. Some of the outskirts lack coverage,’’ he said. Rajagopal, 83, pitted against UDF’s R Selvaraj and LDF’s F Lawrence, has been quite active in the constituency over the past weeks. The live webcast of his poll campaign will be a novelty for the former Union Minister also who first stood for an election 32 years ago in 1980. The BJP’s IT wing has ‘imported’ a ten-member team to Neyyatinkara to manage Rajagopal’s parallel campaign in the e-world. The team spins out SMSs and e-mails and also promotes Rajagopal on Facebook and Twitter. Two websites, www.orajagopal.in and www.orajagopalnews.com which contain daily updates of the campaign and other details were created specially for the by-poll. “Through e-campaigning we aim to catch the attention of Neyyatinkaraites who are working in other parts of the country or abroad. They may not be voting themselves, but can prompt their family members to vote for the BJP candidate,’’ BJP state president V Muraleedharan said.
