The train had originated from Assam and was headed for New Delhi.

New Jalpaiguri: Several persons were injured when seven bogies of Brahmaputra Mail were derailed about 15 km from New Jalpaiguri junction late on Sunday, railway sources said.

While three bogies next to the engine went ahead, the remaining seven were derailed between Rangapani and Nijbari stations at 10:55 pm, sources in the Northeast Frontier Railway said.

The cause of the derailment was still not clear. A rescue van rushed to the spot along with senior railway officials led by ADRM, New Jalpaiguri, K Punaswami.

The emergency unit of North Bengal Medical College and Hospital, four km from the accident spot, has been alerted to meet any exigency.

The area where the Delhi-bound train derailed did not have any water body in its vicinity, the sources said.
