Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday accused the opposition of playing politics over the murder of young Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Narendra Kumar while announcing that the investigations into the case would be carried out by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
"The opposition is trying to defame the state and ran away from discussion on the mining issue. The opposition is only playing politics," said Chouhan in Bhopal on Tuesday.
"I have requested the High Court to see if a sitting judge can investigate the matter. I had requested the opposition to debate about CBI enquiry, but they did not do so. Action has been taken against criminals. The police force is not demoralised. We have lost one of our young and dynamic IPS officers. Madhu Rani Teotia (Kumar's wife) is the daughter of Madhya Pradesh. I am with the family of the IPS officer. She will stay in Madhya Pradesh and work here. I have ordered an enquiry in the murder of the officer," said Chouhan.
The 30-year-old IPS officer was allegedly mowed down by a tractor-trolley on Thursday in Morena when he tried to stop the vehicle carrying illegally mined stone.
Madhya Pradesh Director General of Police Nandan Dube had denied the involvement of the stone mafia even though the officer's family claimed that Narendra Kumar had filed several cases against tractor owners in the area, who were let off by the local police.
Father of the deceased officer, Keshav Dev, claimed that the incident 'was a planned incident' and that his son's murder was a political conspiracy and that his son and daughter-in-law were "threatened" by a local legislator.
"We found out about the incident from our relatives in Delhi. First we were told it was an accident and the actual facts came in much later. We were not given a copy of the FIR too. He was under a lot of pressure lately. He told me that he booked a lot of tractors but the local cops let them go."
Kumar tried to stop a tractor-trolley which was allegedly carrying illegally mined stones. When the tractor did not stop the IPS officer stood in front of the vehicle in order to bring it to a halt.
But the tractor driver identified as Manoj Gurjar instead of stopping the vehicle, sped and hit the 30-year-old officer, crushing him under the wheels.
Gurjar has been arrested and booked for murder and a case has been registered under section 302 of the IPC against him.
Kumar, a Bihar cadre IPS Officer, had sought a transfer from his cadre three months ago to be with his pregnant wife, who is an MP cadre IAS officer.
Narendra Kumar Singh was posted at Banmore as Sub Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) since last one month and during his brief tenure he had taken on the mining mafia head-on by seizing number of trucks and tractors engaged in illegal mining in the area.
