Belgrade,(Serbia-Montenegro): Europe was in a state of utter confusion over the arrest of Bosnian Serb war crimes fugitive General Ratko Mladic.

The Serbian government has denied the media reports about his arrest.

Top war crimes fugitive Mladic has been located and authorities are negotiating his surrender, senior state security officials said on Tuesday.

The wartime Bosnian Serb army commander "has not yet been arrested," the official said. Another security official confirmed Mladic's "hiding place has been discovered in recent days."

However, officials refused to specify the exact whereabouts. But private Beta news agency said Mladic was found on Cer Mountain, some 100 kilometers west of Belgrade on the border with Bosnia. State news agency Tanjug, quoting Bosnian Serb BN television, had earlier reported that Mladic was arrested and was "being transported" to the US-run air force base in Tuzla, eastern Bosnia.

But as per reports, the 63-year old general was arrested in Serbia then transferred to Tuzla in northeastern Bosnia. Mladic is indicted on two counts of genocide: for the massacre of 8,000 Muslims at Srebrenica in 1995. And the siege of Sarajevo in which over 10,000 civilians were killed.
