Mumbai: The long-awaited charge sheet against the lone captured terrorist of the Mumbai terror attacks last year, Mohammed Ajmal Kasab, will be filed before the court here Wednesday, a senior police official said on Tuesday.
"The voluminous charge sheet will hopefully answer all the questions about the Mumbai terror attacks of November 26, 2008," Joint Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria told media persons.
The only terrorist nabbed alive of the 10 who attacked Mumbai, Kasab is presently in custody with more than 12 different cases filed against him.
"The nearly 5000-page chargesheet is ready and will be filed before a Metropolitan Magistrate tomorrow," special public prosecutor Ujwal Nikam told PTI.
The charge sheet is expected to name around 20 suspects, including Pakistani militant leaders Yosuf Muzzamil and Zaki-ur Rehman Lakhvi, who are accused of being the brains of the attack conspiracy.
Kasab and his associate Mohammed Ismail Khan allegedly shot dead police officers Hemant Karkare, Ashok Kamte and Ashok Kamte and people at Mumbai’s main railway station.
The charge sheet will contain Kasab’s conversation with his handlers in Pakistan, his interrogation report besides eyewitness accounts.
External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee has said that the government will reply to Pakistan's questions over the Mumbai terror attack investigation.
"So far the composite dialogue is concerned, it is paused, and we expect Pakistan to do more in respect of dismantling the terror infrastructure and also to bring the perpetrators of terror attacks to justice. The process is on. We have received their response, we are going to send our response today," said Mukherjee on Tuesday.
The statement came even as Dawn News, in an exclusive report, said Pakistan has sought all the evidence gathered by India on the Mumbai attacks, including fingerprints and DNA samples of all the terrorists killed.
