Ploughing fields, planting seeds, harvesting, and cultivating crops can help you make more money than the conventional 9 to 6. Sounds unreal, doesn’t it? Farming is not defined by what it used to be years back. By cultivating certain crops, you can earn more than a decent amount. So, if you own a farmhouse or a piece of farming land and are looking to make some money out of it, let us tell you that cultivating watermelons can make you around Rs 10 lakh rupees in just 90 days. There are many varieties of watermelon available in the market, but the one that is most popular is the Taiwan watermelon. This black striped watermelon is made with very little water and in less time. Taiwan watermelon is also in high demand as it is sweeter than normal watermelons and its seeds are available in the market for Rs 8 to 10 lakh per kg. 80 to 100 grams of seed is required per acre. To protect it from excess heat and weeds, it should be covered with plastic with small holes in it. Water should be poured into it through these holes, so that the moisture inside remains intact.
Farmer Pramod Kumar informed Local 18 that anyone wishing to grow watermelons should consider a few important factors. Watermelons are typically cultivated in areas where the groundwater content is low or the land is dry. Before planting watermelons, the soil should be tested. Watermelon cultivation is best in soils with a pH between 5 and 7. Drip irrigation should be used in the fields for planting watermelons, as the fruit requires very little water. About half an acre produces about 60 to 80 quintals of watermelon. 600 to 800 quintals of watermelon can be cultivated in 4 acres and income up to Rs 10 lakh is possible in 90 days.
