CHENNAI: A software engineer from Pune who walked into the Chennai airport on an otherwise calm Sunday was subjected to a harrowing all-night interrogation, courtesy of something he had just “picked up”. According to sources in the airport, Kishore Rao (27), who had come down to Chennai for training in a software company on OMR, was all set to board the flight home, when security was alerted after finding a gun’s magazine clip in his baggage. Panic set in as the CISF guards immediately apprehended him and took him into custody. The young techie told them that he had made the trip from Pune by bus. As he was switching buses at Bengaluru, he found the empty gun magazine under the seat. Considering it an interesting find, he claimed that he took it along with him and showed it off to all his colleagues and friends. Not thinking too much about it, he allegedly tossed it into his baggage and attempted to board the 8.30 pm Kingfisher flight to Pune.Unfortunately for him, the CISF guards apparently did not buy the story and completed a full verification with his colleagues. On Monday morning, when it was finally proven that the frightened engineer was not a terrorist nor was the owner of the bullet clip, they allowed him to go home. They, however, retained the magazine. The incident created a flutter at the airport as word got around that a terrorist with ammunition has been apprehended.
