A dialysis unit each with a capacity of ten machines will be installed in all government hospitals in the state, wherever space and other facilities are provided, Finance Minister K M Mani has said.
The funding of the facility will be from the proceeds of the sale of Karunya lotteries of the State Lotteries Department. Bringing reputed private hospitals under the scheme is also under the active consideration of the government. Addressing mediapersons after chairing a meeting of district collectors convened here on Thursday, Finance Minister K M Mani said that a scheme has been drawn up wherein 90 kidney patients can undergo dialysis for a period of two years and three months in each unit. The cost of setting up the dialysis centre will be fully borne under the Karunya medical treatment aid scheme.
The minister said he had given directions to the district collectors to provide adequate financial assistance within 24 hours of receiving an application, if a patient is found to be in need of emergency treatment or surgery, in government hospitals. Imprest money will be released for this purpose for all government medical college hospitals, general hospitals and district hospitals, he said.
‘’Forty-two non-government hospitals have also been brought under the scheme. The district collectors have been asked to rope in more prominent hospitals to ensure that the treatment facilities reach all needy patients,’’ Mani said.
The minister granted permission to collectors to release `3,000 as one-time medical assistance for applicants. He also said that the beneficiaries of the Karunya scheme who had spent their own money for treatment without availing of benefits, will be provided assistance on the basis of delayed applications, subject to certain conditions.
He said that so far Rs 40.44 crore had been released under the Karunya scheme to 3,953 beneficiaries. Mani, in the presence of Registration Minister Anoop Jacob, directed the district collectors to organise taluk-level adalats to redress complaints with regard to the tariff price of land. ‘’The complaints will be rectified in October itself,’’ he said.
Mani also said he had directed collectors to take strong action against online lotteries, which are banned. Applications should be filed in the courts by the officials to obtain production warrants to nab the culprits.
‘’Under no circumstances would other state lotteries be allowed to be sold in the state,’’ he said.
Mani said he had also given orders to convene meetings of the monitoring committees headed by the respective district collectors and comprising of the District Superintendent of Police (Intelligence), district lotteries officer and Taxes Deputy Commissioner as members. So far, the committees have registered 43 cases.
