Come September 14, the VIT university campus would be abuzz over a lot of technical activities, when nearly 6,000 students, representing 350 colleges and universities across the country, would be joining their counterparts to engage themselves in ‘graVITas 2012,’ a three-day international techno knowledge carnival.
VIT Chancellor G Viswanathan said,”The fest is going to witness global participation of students and promises to be bigger and better than previous editions.” This fourth edition of the festival is centered around the theme ‘Green Energy’ and would consist 75 events in 11 different categories ranging from robotics to bio technology. “The need of the hour is to enhance the evolving renewable energy technology with the prime focus on sustainable development. The youth today are the future of tomorrow and their becoming ‘green aware’ holds the promise for a bright and prosperous future,” he added.
A series of 16 workshops, conducted by external professionals on ‘cloud computing’, ‘android’ and ‘I-sense’, paper presentations, guest lectures, demonstrations, talent shows and exhibitions would help students showcase their technical talents, he added. The events would carry a prize money of `15 lakh this year. The events include ‘Ultimate engineer’ (designing gadgets to generate electricity),‘contraptions’ making of a self-actuating machines), ‘Adwars’ and ‘bomb expert unleashed.’
A pre-fest event in the form of ‘India Emerge Youth Summit’ with the theme ‘Indian policy framework: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow’ would also be held ahead of the festival on September 8 and 9 at the campus, aimed at exposing students to issues pertaining to government policy making and highlighting the role of youth in this regard. A webinar by Nobel Laureate Dr Harry Kroto, during the inaugural session would be another highlight of the festival.
Dr Rakesh Roshan, Technology Team leader at Oxford University and A Dinakar, MD Saint Gobain, Chennai, will be the chief guests at the inauguration of the festival while Dr T Ramasamy, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, and Dr Saurav Pal, Director of National Chemical Laboratory, Pune will be the chief guests for the valediction.
