KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Wednesday granted provisional permission for constructing a canopy over the 18 holy steps (pathinettam padi) at the Sabarimala Temple.The Bench comprising Justice Thottathil B Radhakrishnan and Justice C T Ravikumar passed the order on a suo moto initiated case regarding the construction of the canopy over the steps.The court had earlier passed an order staying the construction of canopy.Additional Chief Secretary K Jayakumar, chairman, High Power Committee of Sabarimala had convened a meeting to consider the feasibility of constructing a canopy and submitted a report before the court.“There will be slight changes in the design of the proposed canopy,” the report said. After recording the suggestions of the committee, HC modified the stay order. The court also directed the committee to file a progress report on or before February 2.
