BHUBANESWAR: Tempers ran high at Neelachal Hospital after a patient’s death triggered reactions from the relatives. Things worsened when one of the administrative staffers of the hospital allegedly took out a gun to threaten the deceased’s kin. Police rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the angry relatives but in vain. Though a few hours later, they took the body for last rites, the situation is unlikely to calm down. Trouble started when one JK Sahu, who was undergoing dialysis, died in the evening. The kin alleged negligence on the part of the hospital and fracas followed. It was during the tense period, the patient’s kin alleged, a senior official of the hospital terrorised them at gunpoint. This snowballed into a major issue as their supporters joined in demanding action against the hospital staff, who said they were manhandled by the mob. While police said no complaint has been filed by any side, Sahu’s kin have demanded immediate action failing which an agitation will be launched. The deceased was a truck operator.
