On April 7, 1970, Sri Raveendran, the Minister of Industries, Labour and Forests, decided to form a committee to plan and implement various schemes for the promotion of sports in Kerala. Accordingly, a subcommittee chaired by Justice V R Krishna Ayyar was formed and submitted a comprehensive report. For that, it was recommended to start sports hostels, sports schools, and sports divisions. Following this, the GV Raja Sports School in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, was established in 1974–75.
At present, there are 390 students in the school, and they are engaged in seven different disciplines athletics, hockey, football, volleyball, basketball, cricket, and taekwondo. Most of the students here are national medalists. The ultimate aim of the school is to produce international medal winners from the institution. To achieve this goal, the basic infrastructure should be developed, and for that, the institution needs emergency help from the department.
