New Delhi: Information and Broadcasting Minister P.R. Dasmunsi was in a critical condition on Monday after his second heart attack in three months, doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) said.

“He continues to be in a serious condition and is on a ventilator. But his vitals are maintained. A team of doctors is looking after him,” AIIMS spokesperson Y.K. Gupta said.

Dasmunsi, 63, was brought to the hospital casualty at around 2.30 a.m. on Monday after he complained of breathlessness due to lung congestion caused by heart failure, added D.K. Sharma, medical superintendent of AIIMS.

“His heart rate and blood pressure have been maintained,” Sharma said, adding that the veteran Congress leader had a 10-year history of diabetes.

Dasmunsi, who is head of the West Bengal Congress Committee, was admitted to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) in AIIMS.

The senior Congress leader had suffered a heart attack on July 8. “He had undergone an angioplasty and stenting of two coronary arteries,” the doctor said.

“He is being closely monitored by a team of doctors,” he added. The team of doctors is being led by the head of the department of cardiology V.K. Behl.
