Include private players in telecom revolution

Urging the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) to push forward the ‘second revolution’ in telecom, Union Information Technology Minister Kapil Sibal opined that the private sector must be included in the efforts.

Speaking through webcast during the 25th year celebrations of C-DOT RAX at Kittur and its upgradation to MAX-NG for NGN services, the minister said it was imperative to involve PPP to take market mechanisms as well as the telecom revolution forward while lauding the efforts of Sam Pitroda. Pitroda, the architect of India’s first telecom revolution. said the first revolution had ended and the country now has 900 million phones.

“The second part of the revolution is about to begin  as it includes broadband networks connecting 2,50,000 panchayats via optical fibre to help transform education, health, governance and the delivery of public services,” he said.
