New Delhi: India is likely to boycott Commonwealth Parliamentary conference to be held on September 30 to October 9 in Islamabad, sources said. This comes after Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Speaker was not invited for the meet.
Pakistan has claimed that they cannot invite the speaker as it is a disputed territory.
Tensions have escalated between the two countries ever since the capture of LeT terrorist Usman Khan in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir. The 20-year-old, along with an accomplice, had attacked a Border Security Force convoy on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway on Wednesday, killing two and injuring 13 Indian soldiers.
Usman, during interrogation, confessed to being a Pakistani national. Islamabad, however, denied his claims, only to be rebutted by the youth’s father, who claimed he was a Pakistani national.
Pakistan, however, still remains defiant, with its Foreign Office spokesperson Syed Qazi Khalilullah saying, "We have repeatedly asked India to refrain from accusations."
Pakistan's National Database and Registration Authority also claimed that Usman is not a Pakistani citizen and his information could not be found in records.
