Jamaat-ud-Dawa asks UN to undo ban by Security Council
The Jamaat showcases its social work to be passed off as an NGO.

New Delhi: Pakistan's Jamaat-ud-Dawa has appealed to the United Nations against the ban placed on it by the UN Security Council.

The spokesperson for UN Security-General Ban Ki Moon had earlier said that if the Jamaat made a request in this regard, it would be considered by the Security Council.

In an exclusive interview to CNN-IBN, Jamaat-ud-Dawa's spokesperson had claimed that the ban had been imposed on the organisation without giving it a fair hearing.

Local reports say that the Jamaat chief Hafiz Sayeed is not under house arrest and that he moves around freely. They also say that gunmen have been spotted guarding the Jamaat's Muridke campus outside Lahore.

The UN had acted to impose a ban on the the Jamaat after the Mumbai attack investigations allegedly pointed out the complicity of the organisation's members with the perpetrators of the Mumbai attacks.
