Accidents in the city of Bengaluru are rising daily due to the growing potholes. It has also highly affected vehicular movement, creating hours of traffic congestion. Following such incidents, Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, D. K. Shivakumar, ordered the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to take care of the problem and find a quick solution. The BBMP, to address this issue, identified the potholes and the affected areas. To increase the speed of the repair work, BBMP is using a social machine. They are reportedly using a machine named Jet Patcher. It makes the work easier and faster. Let us know more about this development in this article.
Due to the difficulty of repairing thousands of potholes manually within the set time, the use of Jet patchers has made the process faster. The machine used by BBMP can repair a pothole with a size ranging from 150 sq m to 180 sq m at once. Repairing this manually usually requires an hour. The Jet patcher first cuts the road and pours asphalt, a mixture of aggregates, binder and filler used for making a road, according to the size of the pothole. Then it levels the compactor making the process more efficient and quick.
According to reports, the state-run organisation has already repaired around 4000 potholes since April 1st, with more than 2000 still to be repaired. Till now, BBMP has received around 1600 complaints through the Raste Gundi Gamana app out of which around 1000 complaints are related to potholes. After Deputy CM instructed to do the repair work within a timeline of 15 days. He sent these instructions on September 1. To meet the deadline the officials are working in different shifts. He also warned of strict action against the officials who are engaged in this work.
He said, “I don’t know how many will face suspension. I don’t care how senior the officials are; if they fail to act, they will face suspension. Every official must work on the ground to resolve this issue. I’ve directed that they oversee the work in each ward,” according to reports.
