Kejriwal Insulin Row: Delhi Court Denies CM's Private Consultation Request, Asks Jail To Provide Him Treatment
The Aam Aadmi Party had earlier accused the Tihar administration of denying insulin to Kejriwal, who is diabetic

A Delhi court denied Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s request for private consultation with doctor on Monday. It asked Tihar Jail to provide him with “requisite medical treatment”. Special CBI Judge Kaveri Baweja pronounced the judgment.

The Rouse Avenue Court said that the medical board constituted by the director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences(AIIMS) will take a decision on the administration of insulin.

The board will consist of senior Endocrinologist and diabetologist. “The medical board also will prescribe diet and exercise plan,” the Court added.

The court noted that though it is Tihar administration’s primary duty to look after Kejriwal’s health, it can consult the AIIMS medical board in case of any requirement for special consultation.

Notably, Kejriwal will continue to be provided with home cooked food on the condition that it will strictly be in compliance with the diet prescribed by the medical board.

“Till such diet is prescribed family to provide food to him stricken as per diet chart of his private doctor and in terms of court’s order,” Special judge Baweja said.

The AIIMS medical board will submit a report at the earlier on whether there is a requirement of insulin administration at this juncture.

Aam Aadmi Party sources said that Kejriwal wrote to Tihar jail superintendent on Monday claiming he has been asking for insulin daily amid the spike in his sugar levels.

He also rejected the jail authorities’ claim that AIIMS doctors have said there was no reason to worry about the CM’s health conditions, sources added. Kejriwal, in his letter to the superintendent, accused the jail administration of “lying” under “political pressure”.

Earlier on Sunday, the Tihar administration had arranged a video conference of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal with senior specialists from AIIMS during which “neither the issue of insulin was raised by Kejriwal, nor was it was suggested by the doctors”, Jail officials said.

The Aam Aadmi Party had accused the Tihar administration of denying insulin to Kejriwal, who is diabetic. The party has also alleged a “conspiracy” to kill him.

“After a 40-minute detailed consultation, Kejriwal was assured that there was no serious concern and was advised to continue with the prescribed medicines, which will be evaluated and reviewed regularly,” a Tihar jail official said.

The video conference was organised on a request from Kejriwal’s wife Sunita. Medical officers were also present on the call.

The AIIMS specialist was provided with a complete record of CGM (Glucose Monitoring Sensor) and the details of diet and medicines being taken by the AAP national convenor.

“Neither the issue of insulin was raised by Kejriwal, nor was it suggested by the doctors,” the official added.
