HYDERABAD: Caught in a piquant situation whether to claim or disown the legacy of Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, whose second death anniversary falls on Friday, the government of Kiran Kumar Reddy is distinctly unable to summon up much enthusiasm for this year’s memorial events in honour of the late chief minister. At Pavuralagutta in Kurnool district, where YSR was killed in a helicopter crash two years ago, there will be an official memorial meeting but it will be a lowkey affair, in contrast with the observance last year when K Rosaiah’s cabinet assembled tpay respects to their former leader.Though the government itself is organising a memorial meeting this year too, no one appears to be in a tearing hurry to visit the place. In the state capital, the Congress is oragnising a perfunctory memorial meeting at Gandhi Bhavan which will be attended by PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana to acknowledge the service rendered by the late leader.Chief minsiter Kiran Kumar Reddy will do his bit too by garlanding the statue of YSR at Punjagutta. After the Gandhi Bhavan ritual, Satyanarayana will leave for Krishna district as part of his tour of the district to “energise” Congress party cadres.Satyanarayana has directed the presidents of district and city Congress committees across the state to observe the death anniversary at the respective party headquarters.Though YSR’s son Jagan Mohan Reddy too will not be travelling to Pavuralagutta, his party is mobilising big numbers for a meeting at the YSR memorial at the family estate at Idupulapaya in Kadapa district.Jagan Mohan Reddy, his mother Vijayamma and the 29 MLAs who resigned in demonstration of their fidelity to him will be attending the event. The YSR Congress has directed its party cadres to mark the second anniversary on a grander scale by organising programmes like blood donation camps, donation of fruits to patients in hospitals, feeding the poor etc.in mandal headquarters and Assembly constituencies across the state.
