THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has extended its One Time Settlement (OTS) scheme for settling electricity bill arrears up to March 31, 2012, as the scheme has turned out to be a success. Orders in this regard were issued on Wednesday last. Penal interest on arrears will be reduced to nine percent if the defaulter is willing to remit the entire sum in a single payment and to 15 percent if the payment is made in six monthly instalments.If the payment is being made in six instalments, one-third of the amount has to be paid first. Deputy chief engineers of electrical circles have been authorised to settle revenue arrears up to a principal amount of `2 lakh, while chief engineers (distribution) can settle arrears above Rs 2 lakh and up to `4 lakh. Full-time members of the board have been deputed to settle arrears above `4 lakh. The OTS scheme will be available to the High Tension and Extra High Tension consumers also. The original deadline for the OTS scheme was Sept30, 2011. According to the order, the OTS scheme has proved a success. For instance, the Chief Engineer (distribution centre) and the Deputy Chief Engineer, electrical circle, Kalpetta, had reported huge response for the scheme, suggesting that it should be extended.
