BARIPADA: Forest officials on Wednesday seized a leopard hide and arrested two persons from Baliadiha village under Bangiriposi police limits in Mayurbhanj district. The raid was conducted jointly by the forest officials, police and local wildlife activists.The poachers are Karunakar Murmu and Laxman Hembrum. Regional Conservator of Forest and Field Director of STR Anup Nayak said they were arrested while trying to sell the leopard hide. Four months back, they had poisoned a buffalo to death and the leopard died after eating the animal. Later they had processed its hide and kept for smuggling.Baripada DFO Bijay Panda and environmentalist Vanoo Mitra Acharya along with forest rangers and laid a trap to arrest them. The duo had demanded Rs 30,000 against the hide.
