Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has called upon all the ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs and other representatives of the people to make the fourth World Telugu Conference to be held at Tirupati in December a grand success.
Addressing a preparatory meeting at Jubilee Hall here on Thursday, he said that in the age of globalisation and industrialisation, when English is the preferred medium of communication and people are under western influence, the Telugu language and culture were under threat.
‘’The fourth World Telugu Conference at Tirupati will be a perfect platform to create awareness among the people on the need for protecting and promoting the Telugu language and culture. It will be a start to reinvent the glory of the Telugu language and people.’’
Emphasising the importance of the event, which is being held in the state after 37 years, he said there were hardly 90 days left for the event and preparations should be completed on a war-footing. He said there would be some more meetings like Thursday’s for getting suggestions from people’s representatives. ‘’Telugu World Conference should be held in a manner to be proud of,’’ he said.
Tourism minister V Vasantha Kumar the World Telugu Conference would be preceded by village, mandal and district level programmes which will be held with the help of local MLAs, MPs, MLCS and district administration. Each district has been given Rs 25 lakh for the purpose. He invited people’s representatives to be part of any of the 16 committees formed for conducting the World Telugu Conference.
When the suggestions were sought from the assembled people’s representatives, initially, there was no response and senior leaders like former minister Gade Venkata Reddy left the meeting without comment. TDP’s Nanapaneni Rajakumari said it was important to protect Telugu language and culture for future generations and assured full support from her side. Primary education minister S Sailajanath stressed the need for making teaching of Telugu language mandatory in schools. He also favoured Telugu as medium of instruction in higher education.
CPM MLA Jualakanti Ranga Reddy wanted the government to use the official language effectively in administration. “Such programmes will be of no avail unless the government ensures its implementation at official level. Sadly, there are leaders today who have to search for right words to speak the language coherently,’’ he said.
