Both the houses, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned for the day on Tuesday amidst protests by the Opposition over the Pegasus snooping controversy and farmers’ issues.
The Lower house passed the Tribunals Reforms Bill, 2021 amid the din.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the government was ready to respond to any queries raised by members on bills laid in the House. Critical of the Opposition, Sitharaman said that the “constitutional impasse” in Parliament was “not correct”.
Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and RSP MP N K Premchandran said that bills should not be passed when the House is not in order and there should be a proper debate before the passage of any bill.
In Rajya Sabha, the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill, 2021 was passed with a brief discussion amid the ruckus created by opposition parties.

– With Parliament’s proceedings being stalled by the opposition’s protests over the Pegasus issue, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday slammed it for its conduct, including tearing papers and making “derogatory” remarks on the way bills have been passed, as he accused them of insulting the legislature and the Constitution. Briefing reporters on Modi’s speech at the BJP parliamentary party meeting, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said the prime minister expressed anger at the conduct of some opposition members and noted that those who tore papers and threw it around have remained unrepentant.
– Government has not conducted any study to assess impact of Covid-19 pandemic on suicides in the country. However, realizing the impact that Covid-19 may have on mental health of people, the Govt has taken a number of initiatives to provide psychosocial support during Covid-19, Ministry of Home Affairs informs Lok Sabha.
– The Ministry of Home Affairs informed the Parliament that it has no plans to bifurcate Tamil Nadu.
– Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday led a breakfast meeting of opposition leaders to discuss holding a ‘mock Parliament’ in the premises as both Houses face disruptions and protests over the Pegasus row and farmers’ agitation.
– While parties such as the Trinamool Congress, Shiv Sena, NCP and RJD, Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party was conspicuous by its absence. The AAP has always stayed away from opposition strategy meetings in Parliament, especially those led by the Congress. Unlike in the past, AAP had been invited for this meeting but it chose to stay away.
– Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other Opposition leaders ride bicycles to the Parliament, after the conclusion of their breakfast meeting. The opposition parties are cycling to Vijay Chowk.
– At meeting with opposition leaders, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said, “Single most important thing in my view is that we unite this force. The more this voice (of the people) unites, the more powerful this voice will become, the more difficult it’ll become for BJP-RSS to suppress it.”
