Navapur (Maharashtra): People have been asked to avoid visiting Navapur in Maharashtra after fears that bird flu might have actually passed to human beings.

Western Railway has also cancelled the halt of four passenger trains at Navapur. Passenger trains running between Surat-Bhusawal and Surat-Nandurbar will not halt at Navapur now.

According to the Nandurbar district collector, a three km radius has been marked and all entries and exits to the town are being regulated.

Special checkposts have been set up on the Maharashtra-Gujarat border and all travellers are being given a list of do's and don'ts to follow.

Culling of chicken in the bird flu-hit town has been completed. Over 1,95,000 birds from poultries in affected areas were culled and 3,60,000 eggs have been destroyed.

The Maharashtra government has also started disbursement of compensation to poultry farm owners. More than Rs 5 lakh has been distributed so far.
