BANGALORE: A 45-year-old man allegedly killed his three children and committed suicide at his residence near Chowdeshwari temple at Chowdeshwarinagar in Yelahanka police station limits in the wee hours of Monday. The deceased have been identified as Dharmalingam, his sons Sundar Vighnesh, 10, Sakthivelu,6, and daughter Indu, 8. The children were studying in fourth, first and second standard respectively at Sadguru Primary School near their house. He was working as a weaver at a powerloom centre near his residence. His second wife Tulasi, 32, had ended her life three months ago and dejected over her death, he killed her children before taking the extreme step, it is suspected. Meanwhile, the police have also suspected that he might have taken the extreme step as he was unable to arrange money for the wedding of his daughter from his first wife. The exact reason is yet to be investigated. Dharmalingam was married to Maheshwari and had three daughters, Geetha, Sharanya and Priya, from his first marriage. As they did not have a son, Maheshwari decided that he should marry another woman and accordingly he married Tulasi about 12 years ago. From the second marriage, he had two sons. The family lived together. Geetha and Sharanya had got married a few years ago.“But three months ago, Tulasi went to her parents house in Salem and hanged herself as she felt that she was possessed by an evil spirit. Dharmalingam was depressed after this. He had quit his job. Meanwhile, an alliance was finalised for Priya with a relative in Tirupur in Tamil Nadu and the wedding was scheduled on Wednesday.  Dharmalingam was reportedly unable to mobilise funds for the wedding and he was upset over this,” the police explained. On Sunday,  he asked his wife and Priya to go to Doddballapur and bring his second daughter Sharanya home for the wedding. “When Maheshwari and her daughters returned home on Monday morning, they found the door locked from inside and when they peeped through the window, they were shocked to see the four hanging from an iron beam of the ceiling. They broke open the door and tried to rescue them but the four were dead by that time. It is suspected that Dharmalingam hanged his children one after the other before hanging himself, the police added.“Maheswari was taking care of the children and Sakthivelu was fond of her. Usually, she took him wherever she went. But on Sunday, Dharmalingam had refused to send Sakthivelu with her. Also, though his wife did not want to take the bride with her, Dharmalingam had forced his wife to take Priya with her. “Going by these facts, it is suspected that Tulasi’s death led him to take the extreme step,” the police said.Dharmalingam hailed from Salem and had come to the city about 25-years back in search of livelihood. The bodies were shifted to Dr B R Ambedkar Medical College and Hospital for post mortem. Yelahanka police have registered a murder and unnatural death case and further investigations are on.
