In a distressing incident, a man in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri district was arrested on Saturday for holding a minor girl captive for three days and repeatedly sexually assaulted her after she declined his marriage proposal.
The victim, a 17-year-old, was beaten, and according to police, the accused used a hot iron rod to write the letters of his name, ‘Aman’, on her face.
According to the police, the accused is a 22-year-old school dropout who works at a salon in Hyderabad.
The police initially registered a case under ‘lesser’ sections such as wrongful confinement and voluntarily causing hurt, as alleged by her family, as per The Times Of India report.
However, after the survivor’s statement was recorded before a magistrate under Sec 164 of the CrPC, sections related to rape along with the POCSO Act were added to the FIR.
“Since she didn’t carry an ID, we were not sure whether she was a minor. We have now added IPC section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt using dangerous weapon) and 376 (rape) along with Pocso Act,” stated SHO (Dhaurahra), Dinesh Singh.
Speaking to the publication, SSP (Kheri) Ganesh Saha refuted the victim family’s allegations, stating, “We registered an FIR on basis of a complaint by her family. A video statement of the girl was recorded in which she didn’t level such grave allegations. We don’t know why she changed her statement in court. However, we have started our probe as per her allegations now. The accused has been arrested.”
