Men's Doubles: Paes moves ahead, Bhupathi knocked out
Paes and Bhupathi will face each other in the mixed doubles.

Paris: It's been a mixed day for India at the French Open with a huge upset on Day I of the men’s doubles event.

Ninth seed Leander Paes of India and Lukas Dlouhy of the Czech Republic breezed through their opener against the Ratiwatana brothers of Thailand in straight sets.

Paes and Dlouhy defeated Sanchai and Sonchat Ratiwatana 6-2, 6-4.

But Stephen Huss of Australia and Ross Hutchins of Britain knocked out fourth seeds Mahesh Bhupathi of India and Mark Knowles of Bahamas 6-4, 6-4.

Paes and Bhupathi will square up against each other in the mixed doubles first round later this week.

Men’s Doubles First Round Results:

  • Janko Tipsarevic and Viktor Troicki, Serbia, defeated Lukasz Kubot, Poland, and Lovro Zovko, Croatia, 6-1, 2-6, 6-3.
  • Jonas Bjorkman, Sweden, and Kevin Ullyett (8), Zimbabwe, defeated Eric Butorac, United States, and Ashley Fisher, Australia, 7-6 (8), 1-6, 7-6 (2).
  • Michal Mertinak, Slovakia, and Jean-Claude Scherrer, Switzerland, defeated Travis Parrott, United States, and Filip Polasek, Slovakia, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
  • John Isner and Sam Querrey, United States, defeated Potito Starace and Filippo Volandri, Italy, 6-3, 7-5.
  • Daniel Nestor, Canada, and Nenad Zimonjic (2), Serbia, defeated Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Gilles Simon, France, 6-3, 6-3.
  • Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski (11), Poland, defeated Jaroslav Levinsky and David Skoch, Czech Republic, 6-4, 7-6 (3).
