What if you could use the same ticket for everything from getting into a bus to paying your parking fee? That might be a reality for Kochiites going by a proposal by the Kochi Metro Rail Limited.
The Common Mobility Card, popularly known as the MORE card, was proposed by the KMRL during its board meeting on Tuesday.
Once implemented, the card could be used not only in the Kochi Metro but gradually in everything including buses, waterways, railways, parking and even for paying your toll fee.
The card was launched earlier for the Delhi Metro and its feeder buses. “The utilisation of MORE cards for Kochi Metro is something which we are keenly looking forward to. The proposal was discussed during the board meeting and sent to the Centre. The Union Ministry for Urban affairs has also been pushing for the use of the card. Moreover, one of the objectives of the Kochi Metro project is to bring about advanced systems into our public transportation as a whole. These cards would be a move in this direction,” said managing director of Kochi Metro Rail Limited Elias George.
The use of the card across various modes of travel would mean advancement and integration of ticketing. This would be done in stages, said the KMRL authorities.
While the system would mean less time and cashless travel for the commuters for the authorities too the card offers multiple benefits. For one, the card will pave way for e-ticketing and computerisation thereby increasing transparency and efficiency. It will also help track the commuter population, transport routes and peak hour traffic, paving way for better planning and efficient integration of traffic systems.
