Mumbai: After last year's monsoon deluge that brought Mumbai city and its suburbs to a grinding halt for almost a week, Maharashtra government has finally come out with a disaster management plan to handle the possible flood situation that may arise during monsoon.
The Railways, Municipal Corporation and Defence have been involved in designing it.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh says, "After last years experience we have learned a lot. This year we are better prepared to handle the situation."
Over 200 kilometers drainage systems have been cleaned and height of 196 electricity transformers have been raised to avoid damage to them during flooding. Chief Minister said there is no dearth of funds for these projects.
"There is no dearth of funds. Whatever demands we have from Centre we have forwarded the papers for it," says Deshmukh.
The Mahrashtra government has spent around Rs 40 crore so far on these projects.
But one concern for state government is the lack of financial support from Centre for the project.
