A 32-year-old man was booked under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act for verbally abusing and attacking two Dalits at Kannoorpatti near here.

Puduchatram police booked S Sasi (32), a resident of Kannoorpatti, for allegedly verbally abusing and attacking R Varadaraj and his friend Karunanidhi.

Sasi, who owned a fast food eatery at Puduchatram, picked up a quarrel with the owner of a neighbouring stall, Saravanan.

On Saturday evening, Saravanan and Sasi’s brother Krishnamoorthy were said to have engaged in a wordy duel. Two others Varadaraj and Karunanidhi, who were present at the spot, joined Saravanan and chided Krishnamoorthy.

Sasi, who came to know about the quarrel, rushed to the spot and allegedly attacked them with a log, besides verbally abusing them, sources said.

On information, Puduchatram police went to the spot and conducted an inquiry following which, they booked Sasi under several sections of SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities). Meanwhile, Sasi escaped from the spot. Cops have launched a hunt to nab him.
