BANGALORE: Karnataka’s second major Opposition party, the JD(S) is in a quandary. Having decided to boycott the Assembly, it wants to hold mock sessions. Only, it has no takers for the role of chief minister and speaker. The party has been targeting B S Yeddyurappa over corruption and K G Bopaiah for the flak he received from the Supreme Court over disqualifying 16 MLAs.“We are so used to attacking the two that we find it hard to defend ourselves as Yeddurappa and Bopaiah, even if it is a mock Assembly,” JD(S) MLC Y S V Datta told Express on Saturday.“How can we pose questions when we do not recognise the authority of the chief minister and the chair?” former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy said. The party is also shunning the role of Excise Minister M P Renukacharya. “After his alleged affair with a nurse, none of our MLAs likes to be called Renukacharya,” Datta said. The JD(S) plans a big mock assembly by inviting thousands of people, media and officials. “We will ensure that the mock Assembly gets more publicity than the real one,” Datta said.
