MADURAI: A single judge at the Madurai Bench of the High Court has asked top police officers in the State to respond to a plea filed praying for criminal actions against pop singer Katy Perry and several Bollywood actors for allegedly staging an ‘obscene’ cultural show during the inauguration of Indian Premier League (IPL) V at Chennai on April 3.Advocate K Jebakumar (32), the petitioner, argued that the performance of Katy Perry, actors Amitabh Bachan, Kareena Kapoor, Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra and Australian cricketer Douglas Bolinger was indecent and obscene. Therefore, they are liable to be booked under Secs 292 (sale of obscene books), 293 (sale of obscene objects to young persons) and 294 (obscene acts and songs) of the IPC, he said.  He also produced photographic evidence to back his contention. He also levelled charges against the police for turning a blind eye. “They remained mute spectators to a show which had obscene, lascivious and semi-nude dances”, he said.  Petitioner is said to have filed a police complaint on April 4, but no legal action was taken. Justice A Selvam directed the DGP (L&O), Inspector General of Police (South zone) and IG (Central) to file their counters soon and adjourned the case to Friday.
