Unable to come to a decision whether party leaders YS Vijayalakshmi and Sharmila should resume Jaganmohan Reddy’s Odarpu Yatra or undertake a padayatra similar to YSR’s Praja Prasthanam, the YSR Congress Party has deferred the joint meeting of the central governing council and the executive governing council, scheduled to be held on Monday, to Wednesday.
The decision to postpone the meeting was taken late on Sunday night because there was no unanimity on which of the two is a better option.
According to party spokesman Ambati Rambabu, no decision has been taken. “We will take a final decision and will announce it on October 10,” he said.
Though the party has more or less decided to resume the Odarpu Yatra which Jagan suspended on the eve of byelections in June to enable the party leaders to conduct electioneering in the poll-going constituencies. Besides, there are suggestions that Sharmila undertake a padayatra to counter TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu’s padayatra. As it seems that it will be a very long time for Jagan to get bail and come out of the prison, the responsibility of keeping the party machinery warm now rests on the shoulders of the mother and daughter.
The YSR Congress wants to exhaust all other options before deciding on padayatra. “Padayatra is like the Brahmastram. Before using it, we will use all other options available to us to be in the public,” party leader Gattu Ramachandra Rao said.
The leaders discussed the issue with Jagan when they met him at the Chanchalguda prison on Sunday. They also discussed another option: Vijayamma and Sharmila addressing public meetings in all the districts.
