CHENNAI: A unique quiz event for the students of Class V was held at the Don Bosco School in Egmore recently. Providing the very young group of students a chance to hone their knowledge, KWIZIKL was conducted by Quiz master Dr Sumanth C Raman. The objective of the KWIZIKL is to create, enhance and sustain the awareness of the facts of this vast universe and in particular our unique home planet. It also hopes to help in imprinting on young minds that knowledge is power and encourages them to learn more. The annual inter-school general knowledge quiz competition has been continuously hosted by the Don Bosco Egmore since 1982.Talented teams of three each, drawn from about 20 prominent schools of Chennai, participated in the competition from which a total of nine schools made it to the finals: Don Bosco, Egmore, Good Shepherd School, Don Bosco Nursery and Primary School, Perambur, Sacred Heart School, Fatima School, Our Lady’s School, Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan Senior Secondary School, Asan Memorial and MCC School.The finals consisted of 10 rounds of quizzing, keeping the participants on the edge of their seat. The teams were tested on memory, observation, logical thinking and puzzle solving. The quiz had innovative rounds like guessing the musical instruments, guessing the proverb from a picture puzzle, logos of companies, information technology, background music from movies and a rapid fire round.The students of Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan School won the first prize and walked away with a DVD player each. The students of Sacred Heart, who secured the second place, received an iPod each. The third place was won by students of the host school who won a video game each.Fr John Alexander, Rector and Correspondent, Don Bosco Egmore, said, "Young children have an inherent sense of curiosity that kindles the discovery of the unknown and helps them to foray into the sea of knowledge."
