Priyanka Gandhi on Thursday made it clear that she will campaign only in constituencies of her mother Sonia Gandhi and brother Rahul in an indication that she was not ready to expand her role as of now as demanded by some senior Congress leaders.
She also dismissed that there was any 'Modi wave' in the country as being claimed by BJP. "I will be in Amethi (Rahul's constituency) and Rae Bareli" (Sonia Gandhi's constituency) 42-year-old Priyanka, accompanied by husband Robert Vadra, said after casting her vote at a polling booth in Lodhi Estate in Amethi.
Priyanka's remarks come in the backdrop of growing demand by some senior Congress leaders, including Madhusudan Mistry and Shobha Ojha, for a bigger role for her in the party. Party General Secretary Janardan Dwivedi had created a buzz recently when he talked about Priyanka being a very political person and that former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi had told him in 1990 about the politically-sharp mind of his daughter. Priyanka had also recently held an internal meeting with top party leaders at the residence of Rahul in Amethi apart from some attending routine ones for election planning.
However, Priyanka's comments on Thursday confirmed that she will confine herself to managing the family fief of Rae Bareli and Amethi. Of late, though, she has been active in the planning of her brother's political affairs. She had also recently held a internal meeting with top party leaders at the residence of Rahul in Amethi apart from attending some routine ones for election planning.
On Narendra Modi, Priyanka said there was no 'Modi wave' in the country as was being projected by BJP. "Bilkul Nahin (absolutely not). Mujhe bilkul nahin lagta (I absolutly do not feel it)," said Priyanka when asked if there was a 'Modi wave'. Meanwhile, asked whether he would react to various allegations against him, Vadra refused to comment. "No comments," he said.
